Personnel provides recruitment, employee orientation, job classification, benefits management, payroll processing, personnel policies, and maintains personnel files for 270 City employees. The department also sponsors safety programs to increase awareness of potential workplace hazards.

General Qualifications

Age

You must be 21 years of age at the time you apply to take the entrance examination. There is no maximum age requirement but all applicants are required to successfully complete a physical agility course.

Citizenship

All applicants must be US citizens at the time of application.

Education

All applicants must have graduated from High School.  Applicants may have a GED but must have 12 college semester hours.

Applicant Processing Steps

To become an applicant you must complete an application and submit it to:

Applicants will first take the written test consisting of  reading / writing skills and a written psychological test. Following the test, applicants will be advised if they passed or failed the testing. Failing applicants will not continue the hiring process and may retest again at the next scheduled testing date. The written test starts at 8 a.m. and is concluded by 12 p.m. After a lunch break applicants will begin the physical agility testing. Applicants should bring a change of clothing for the physical testing.

On the following date applicants passing both the written and physical tests will go before an interview. At this time applicants should turn in their personal history questionnaires.

A background investigation will consist of one or more of the following :

Polygraph Interview
Psychological Testing
Medical Examination
Reference Checks
Employment Checks
Financial Checks

The time it takes to complete the background check is lengthy.

All applicants that pass all phases of the application process will be placed on an eligibility list that will remain in effect for one year.
