Media Release1/20/17

Follow-up to previous media release

Jason LueraOn the 19th of January 2017, the Big Spring Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division charged Jason Luera Hispanic/Male 32 years of age for the Murder of his mother, Mrs. Gloria Martinez. Mr. Luera had been at 707 Lorilla at the time of Martinez’s death and had been considered a suspect of this horrendous crime. Mr. Luera was originally arrested and charged on the 9th of December 2016 for a Parole Violation. While in jail, Mr. Luera was charged on the 6th of January 2017 with two 118th District Court indictments for Burglary of a Habitation/Intend other Felony a Felony 2 offense, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon a Felony 2 offense. On the 19th of January 2017 the Criminal Investigations Division again interviewed Mr. Luera with additional evidence relating to the Murder investigation at which time he confessed to the crime. Mr. Luera was then charged with Murder a Felony 1 offense. The Murder investigation is ongoing and we are unable to comment any further regarding this incident.

On the 22nd of October 2016 at approximately 12:30 P.M., Big Spring Police Department Officers were dispatched to 707 Lorilla in reference to a “suicide”. Big Spring Fire Department and EMS also responded and found the victim was deceased. The victim has been identified as Gloria Martinez Hispanic/Female 52 Years of age. The Criminal Investigations Division personnel responded to the scene and found suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. Detectives are proceeding with this investigation as a homicide and are continuing to piece together information and evidence received. Unfortunately, with this being an ongoing criminal investigation we will not be able to release any further details regarding this incident.


 

Media Release 1/10/17

On the 10th of January 2017 at approximately 12:00 P.M., Big Spring Police Department officers were dispatched to HEB (2000 S. Gregg) in reference to a person who had threatened to end his own life. Upon arrival Officers located a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban maroon in color. Officers found the only occupant to have sustained a gunshot wound. The preliminary investigation indicates this is a suicide. The Big Spring Police Department will not release the name of the individual giving family enough time to make proper notifications.


 

Media Release 12/27/16

On the 25th of December 2016 at approximately 7:25 P.M., Big Spring Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of 11th and Birdwell in reference to a stabbing. After searching the area, officers located Armando Avina Hispanic/Male 34 years of age at the intersection of 11th and Knowles. It was found Avina had been stabbed multiple times in the back. Big Spring Emergency Medical Services responded and transported Avina to Scenic Mountain Medical Center for treatment. Avina has since been transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa where he is listed in stable condition.
